Sutton Coldfield’s MP, Andrew Mitchell, and Sutton’s Conservative Councillors ask for extra time for residents to contribute to the Public Consultation on Sutton’s Green Belt. Following a ‘Council of War’ last Friday Sutton Coldfield’s MP, Andrew Mitchell, and Sutton’s Conservative Councillors rejected the proposals to build on Sutton’s Green Belt and have branded the timeline for the public consultation both insulting and ridiculous. In addition Andrew Mitchell has met with Senior Planning Officers from Birmingham City Council to discuss the potential threat to Sutton’s Green Belt. Mr Mitchell has requested the consultation deadline be extended to ensure that local residents have the opportunity to make their voice heard. Andrew Mitchell MP, said “The plans presented by Labour-controlled Birmingham City Council are not an independent review of the options available to deliver the new homes needed in Birmingham. Instead, they present the case to build on Sutton’s Green Belt land, plans that I and Sutton’s Conservative Councillors have vigorously resisted in Sutton for years.” “At the meeting we looked at ideas about other options available to the City Council to deliver extra homes and I requested more information on the growing population figures on which the Labour Council’s Birmingham Plan 2031 is based. It is essential that all other options are explored immediately.
