On Friday 26 March Andrew Mitchell MP spent the evening at Sutton’s Wyndley Leisure Centre where he met members of the Sutton Coldfield Sub-Aqua Club to present them with new scuba diving equipment, provided by funds from Sport England and the National Lottery. The funds were granted in order to promote scuba diving within Sutton Coldfield and the equipment bought will mean more people can go for try dives as well as inland and offshore open water diving. In particular the Club are looking to encourage more women and young people to get started in this ever growing sport. Since the grant was awarded, there have been up to 15 new recruits to the club who meet every Wednesday at Wyndley Leisure Centre at 8.30pm. Andrew Mitchell handed over part of the new equipment to the latest new members at Wyndley. Andrew was very interested in the project not least as his own children have taken up the sport. Andrew said, “It was a pleasure to meet Sub-Aqua’s new divers and the club’s officials. I wish this worthwhile group all the very best for the future.” Anyone interested in try dives with the club, please contact British Sub-Aqua Club diving officer Keith Whetton on 07957896080 or visit www.suttondivers.net.
